Kids Emporium and KFM .. Making dreams come true!
Being the season of giving, Kids Emporium leaped at the opportunity to work with KFM’s Make a Wish Initiative. For years now, our team have been listening closely to the many heartfelt stories and although we are in the business of maternity wear, travel systems, essentials and everything baby, we felt that we would rather be in the business of making dreams come true. We let KFM know that we were keen to help and only a few days later, we were contacted by the programme manager saying ‘We have a match!’.
It was at this point that we heard the most incredible story about someone who took a stand and made an effort to make a difference.
Vicky sent in a wish for her friend and colleague, Avinita. Alvinita is the receptionist for the company that Vicky works for. Vicky describes her as an incredibly unselfish and giving person. On the 2nd of May, Alvinita found a baby boy lying under a tree, abandoned in a park. He was wearing a thin vest covered in a very dirty blanket. Alvinita instinctively picked up the baby, took him to her friend’s house nearby to clean him up, and then reported the case to the Kuilsriver police station. Alvinita was compelled by her selfless and protective impulse to protect this child. She already has 3 daughters of her own, aged 18, 15, and 12. She now has legal protection of the child she rescued, as the biological parents are not in the position to care for him. Alvinita now has a son, baby Cooper. Coincidentally, she found Cooper on the 16th anniversary of her son’s stillborn passing. Cooper is now 8 months old and Alvinita loves him dearly. When Alvinita told her colleagues about Cooper and his circumstances, Vicky and her colleagues were shocked. The whole office tries to help Alvinita where they can; some colleagues buy nappies and others buy formula for Cooper. As much as her colleagues are trying to help Alvinita, raising a young child is always difficult. The office wants to make Cooper’s first Christmas a very special occasion. They want to show Alvinita how much they appreciate her, and spread some Christmas cheer this festive season hence nominating Alvinita for KFM’s Make a Wish. Vicky’s wish was simply to get Cooper a camp cot .. a small ask considering the needs of a baby.
Our team was completely touched by this incredible story and decided to pull out all the stops to ensure Alvinita and her family have a very special Christmas.
On Saturday the 3rd of December, at the Re-Launch of Kids Emporium Green Point Store, we handed over all these wonderful donations to the value of R40 000 to Alvivnita and darling Baby C.
